🎷Saxophone - Soojung Lee (Korea)
Saxophonist and composer Soojung Lee has won numerous awards in Korea and abroad since 2009, including the Gold Prize at the Gyeonggi-do Orchestral Competition, the Grand Prize at the Gyeonggi-do Youth Arts Festival, and the Young Chang Jazz Competition. She was one of only seven students worldwide chosen as a Presidential Scholar at Berklee College of Music, receiving full support, and later completed her master’s at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute on a full scholarship. Her albums have gained wide recognition: her 2018 debut Soojung Lee, the 2022 live album Duology (named “Best Korean Jazz Albums of 2022” by MM Jazz), and Four Seasons (Bandcamp’s “Best Jazz Album of March 2023,” highlighted by All About Jazz, and winner of Best Jazz Performance Album at the 2024 Korean Music Awards). She completed Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead program in 2023 and has performed internationally with the Sujin Seo Quartet. Recently, she released the collaborative EP Swingsters with pianist Jimin Dorothy.

🎺 Trumpet – Aki Kokufukata (Japan)
Akihiro Kokufukata is a trumpet player and composer from Shizuoka, Japan. A recipient of a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music, he majored in Performance and graduated with distinction. His artistry has been recognized internationally, earning him the “Outstanding Performance” award at the DownBeat 47th Annual Student Music Awards. In 2024, he was nominated for both “Live Artist of the Year” and “Jazz Artist of the Year” at the Boston Music Awards as the lead trumpet player of the acclaimed BT-ALC Big Band. Akihiro has shared the stage with multiple Grammy-winning artists, including Bijon Watson and Mike “Maz” Maher of Snarky Puppy, establishing himself as a versatile and sought-after voice in today’s jazz scene.
